VALENCE — GL / P&L UPLOAD TEMPLATE One row per account, per entity, per period. entity Legal entity or business unit name. Free text, but spell it consistently — it is how rows are grouped. account_category Must be one of the values listed below. Case-insensitive. account_name The specific GL account line. Free text. period YYYY-MM. One calendar month per row. amount A POSITIVE number, always. Revenue and expense are both entered positive; the category determines the direction. Use a credit/refund's own account line rather than a negative amount. Two decimal places. No currency symbols, no thousands separators. ACCEPTED account_category VALUES Revenue Other Revenue COGS Cost of Revenue Payroll Marketing Sales R&D G&A Customer Success Professional Fees Facilities Software Contract Labor Depreciation & Amortization Interest Tax Other Use 'Other' only when nothing else fits. Valence reports how much of your spend landed in 'Other', because unclassified cost is itself a finding. EBITDA is only reported when 'Depreciation & Amortization' rows are present. Without them Valence shows operating income and says so, rather than labelling one number as the other.
